Are flowers grown in heated greenhouses less sustainable than air-freighted flowers?

Not necessarily. The sustainability of flowers depends on many factors, including the carbon footprint of growing and transporting them. This in turn depends on how greenhouses are heated and lit and how the flowers are transported. Under certain conditions, a locally grown rose can therefore have a lower carbon footprint than a rose flown in from a country such as Kenya.
